The Trade and Training Process

The aim of this module is to get students to learn about the trade and the training processes, and their professional orientation. They will start with getting acquainted with the different jobs related to manufacturing, and about the nature of the work and the skills required. They will finally, evaluate and confirm their choice of professional orientation.

Solving Problems Related to Industrial Drafting

In this module, students will learn to solve problems related to industrial drafting. For this, they will learn to calculate linear dimensions, surface areas, and volume of objects. They will learn how to calculate the mass of an object, the dimensions of triangular shape and others and the gear and speed ratios between components of a mechanical system.

Producing Sketches

The aim of this module is to produce sketches, learn about projections and how to construct them, create sectional auxiliary and partial views of various objects, apply dimensions in accordance with national and international standards.

Interpreting Technical Drawings

During this module, students will learn to interpret technical drawings, visualize parts in three-dimensional views, learn about standards for dimensioning and notation, relate dimensions between various views of a part or assembly and determine the functions of assembly components.

Working at a Computerized Workstation

The students will learn how to use a workstation. They will start with using the major features of an operating system, and search for information with the help system. Then, they will create and format documents with a word processing application, and they will also create documents with a spreadsheet application. They will become familiar with the internet, including how to find and retrieve technical information.

Detail Drawings of Mechanical Components

In this module, students will produce drawings of mechanical components. They will start with organizing their work, drawing exterior views of the object, sectional views, auxiliary views and adding the dimensions and notations. Then, they will verify the drawings, print the layout on the plotter and archive the documents.

Illustrating Fasteners

In this module, the students identify the fasteners on a drawing or on an existing mechanical parts and research the characteristics of these fasteners in the technical documentation. They will draw fasteners, import fasteners from electronic block libraries and represent the components in the drawings.

Illustrating the Arrangement of Components

Students will learn to represent the position and orientation of the components and fasteners, identify the various mechanical components in a mechanism, represent component motion on the drafting board and illustrate the relationship between components in a perspective sketch.

Materials and Manufacturing Processes

In this module, the students will learn about common materials used in manufacturing processes, specify the product’s method of manufacture in drawing details and annotations, use symbols for machining, surface finish and fabrication techniques, learn about the material properties and simple calculations for stress and loads.

Assembly Drawings

The aim of this module is to produce assembly drawings. Students learn the correct interpretation of part details and drawings features, organize their work, draw components for manufacturing, insert standard parts from electronic part libraries, use dimensions and notes to clarify assembly details and specifications, verify the drawing, print the documents and archive them.

Specialized Functions of a Computer Aided Drafting Program

The aim of this module is to learn to use the specialized functions of a computer-assisted drawing application, customize the graphic environment of the application, create template drawings with blocks of attributes, create and print scaled views, work in 3D with surface objects, show exploded assembly views, use external reference files in assembly drawings.

Taking and Interpreting Measurements

In this module, students will take and interpret measurements. They will learn to plan their work, prepare the measuring instruments and the objects to measure. They will measure parts with different shapes, verify the physical characteristics of the parts, sketch the parts and maintain the measuring instruments.

Dimensional Tolerances

The aim of this module is to determine the required tolerances related to mechanical parts, to analyze the functional conditions of the object, to establish dimension chains and tolerance values, to determine and apply geometrical tolerancing and dimensioning to the drawings.

Correcting a Drawing

In this module, students will learn methods for checking, analyzing and correcting drawings. They will analyze the drawings and the data related to the project conception. They will gather reference documents related to the project, verify the drawing and the validity of the corrections. They will also add revision annotations and lists for updated designs.

Illustrating Power Train Systems

The aim of this module is to identify the illustrate power train systems such as gears, cams, chains, belt drives of an existing mechanism. Students will identify power train systems on a drawing, search for power train features in technical documentation, perform calculations and draw correct power train systems. They will also import power train components from electronic libraries.

Development Drawings

The aim of this module is to produce development drawings of different object shapes. Students will learn to organize their work, draw the intersection of sheet metal parts, compute the required material quantity and sheet layout and determine bend allowance in bent and formed parts. They will also verify the drawing and archive the documents.

Three-Dimensional Drawings of an Object
